February 27, 2011Canned Acoustica is a recurring musical event that spotlights local musicians in stripped-down, acoustic performances. Silence is expected during the program, and food trucks will be onsite serving through the night.
Guests are required to bring at least two cans of food to be donated to area Houston Food Bank charities. more at culturemap.com -

February 10, 2011The second best part about this event (after the performers of course) is the expectation of silence during the performances.

December 10, 2010Practically Houston’s entire indie scene showed up a few Saturdays ago to either play or watch glam-rockers Roky Moon & BOLT release their self-titled debut CD at the Backroom at the Mink, topping a massive eight-band upstairs/downstairs bill. The PA was busted that night due to all the rock, so the band and Fitzgerald’s teamed up for a free make-up show with Indian Jewelry headlining. Think of this as yet another Christmas gift from the kids in RM&B. more at houstonpress.com

September 20, 2010Two Star Symphony must be the only band on the planet to score an original ballet for Dominic Walsh and work with Ministry’s Al Jourgenson. That kind of open-minded approach and punk attitude have led these intrepid players from original silent movie film scores for the Discovery Green more at www.houstonpress.com

Featured Review from HoustonPress
August 24, 2010Large or small, and however great the music, most benefit shows are born out of extremely bad news. This one is no different: Houston disco-rock demons Electric Attitude lead singer Blake Shepard’s sister Mareshah was hit by a suspected drunk driver while crossing Washington Avenue outside Pearl Bar the night of July 23 and remains in critical condition. Hoping to raise awareness of the severe need for crosswalks on Washington as well as much-needed funds for the family’s medical bills, Walter’s has organized a bill that, despite the unfortunate circumstances, looks like one of the must-see local shows of the year. more at www.houstonpress.com

August 06, 2010The Tontons have had a pretty low-key 2010 so far. By our estimation, their last gig was helping close out Leon’s Lounge in January before the Midtown bar shuttered for renovations. more at www.houstonpress.com

April 29, 2010On the heels of iFest, Sig’s Lagoon and groovy local DJ crew member Psychedelic Sex Panther have put together their own mini-festival this Saturday at the Continental Club (3700 Main). Appropriately called “Mayday Mayhem on Main,” the alliterative event brings together several generations of Texas psychedelic and garage rockers for one long evening of swirling lights and guitar fuzz. more at www.houstonpress.com

April 22, 2010Roky Moon & Bolt escape the recording studio tonight while they are in the midst of laying down tracks for their debut album. Expect plenty of cuts from the untitled space-opera opus, some many possible still in their infancy. more at www.houstonpress.com
