The Menil Collection presents another in its Gallery Talk The Artist's Eye series. Throughout the year, on the first Sunday of each month (except talks held on the second Sunday of April and July, due to the Easter and Independence Day holidays), a Houston artist talks about a work in the Menil Collection that has special meaning to him or her. The public is invited to these free, informal gallery discussions, which can be held in any Menil gallery or building (or outdoor space) of the artists choosing, begin at 3 p.m. Howard Sherman on Cy Twombly Gallery, Sunday, September 5, 2010, 3:00 p.m. Howard Sherman (pictured)received his BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas, and his MFA from the University of North Texas in Denton. his work has been featured in New American Painting, Volume 60 and Volume 72, and was included in a two-year traveling exhibition titled New American Talent, which was organized by Arthouse in Austin, Texas, and selected by Aimee Chang, formerly of the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. He has also completed a three-month residency at the McColl Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a recent solo exhibition at Artspace in Raleigh, NC. The artist was selected for 2010 Vermont Studio Center and Jentel artist residencies. Mr. Sherman's work can be seen at McMurtrey Gallery as well as Pan American Art Projects and Flanders Gallery.
