Market Square Park, in the heart of downtown Houston, will be music to the ears this fall with the launch of The Houston Sound Fall Concert Series. Come listen on the lawn this September, October and November as Houston’s most diverse bands take the stage and wow audiences with their unique sounds.
Kicking off the series on Wednesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m. will be Soular Grooves and Beetle. Two bands with unique sounds, Soular Grooves has one mission: Bring the best in jazz, funk, hip hop, house and reggae in an atmosphere conducive to chillin' and groovin'. The group prides itself on genre-bending (the tempo and style of the music varies), with the common denominators being soul and jazz. Beetle, on the other hand, has brought the best in The Beatles covers to the Houston music scene, helping recreate a special time in American music history. Playing a standard gig every Thursday at the Continental Club, dedicated fans will have the opportunity to hear Beetle perform out of their club element.
The Houston Downtown Management District has collaborated with non-profit The Houston Sound to bring eclectic and independent artists to downtown audiences.
“Market Square has a long history of entertaining Houstonians with live music,” said Angie Bertinot, director of marketing and communications for Downtown District. “Collaborating with The Houston Sound allows us to bring emerging artists to the public at the new Market Square Park and help grow the live music culture of Houston.”
“The Houston Sound is really about showcasing Houston’s incredibly diverse music scene - first to Houstonians, then to the world!” said Dan Workman, president of SugarHill Studios. “The beauty of The Houston Sound is that the beat of the city is in constant evolution--combining tropical, hip hop, jazz, funk, rock, pop, & classical music. Our 'no zoning' musical stylings give us trend-setting sounds that can only be heard in our amazing city.”
Helping support The Houston Sound Fall Concert Series is local-listener supported radio station KPFT and Niko Niko’s new window-style café, which will be open late on concert nights.
