The Museum of Printing History presents the exhibition Charlie Jones: Woodcut Artist, on view September 9, 2010 February 12, 2011. This exhibition consists of large scale woodcut portraits of writers, artists and musicians. Charlie Jones recently retired from teaching at Stephen F. Austin St. University, where he taught Printmaking, Drawing, and Mexican Art History since 1971. His primary area of emphasis is in printmaking, works on paper, and the art of the book. Professor Jones is the Director and Master Printer for the LaNana Creek Press. I think of my work as a duet with the wood, and am happiest when the image seems to have grown naturally from the texture and grain. The choice of wood, paper, and composition, as well as the cutting of the image, proceeds intuitively, guided by my feelings for the subject. My work is created by the joining of the visible with the felt but unseen. On view in tandem with the exhibition The Workshop of Ernest F. de Soto, Master Printer.
