Theatre Under The Stars is pleased to announce The Who's Tommy, as the ACT@TUTS 2010 title! Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) presents the story of a young boys passage from pain to triumph in the electrifying The Whos Tommy. This presentation with an all teen cast by The Academy at Theatre Under The Stars Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) hits the Zilkha Hall stage at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts downtown, September 10 12, 2010. Whos Tommy? A traumatized young pinball wizard who breaks through to international stardom. This dizzying rock opera chronicles the life of a child trapped inside his own mind, and his familys desperate attempts to free him. The Whos Tommy is a thrilling rock and roll journey the New York Times calls, an entertainment juggernaut that lifts the audience right out of its seats. ACT@TUTS, short for The Apprentice Conservatory Training at Theatre Under The Stars.ACT@TUTS is an extension of the classes taught through The Academy at Theatre Under The Stars Humphreys School of Musical Theatre, with a focus on talented actor/singer/dancers 13 to 18 years of age. It aims to offer opportunities in complete musical theatre pieces with emphasis on the performer, supplemented with some physical production and technical aspects. ACT@TUTS was designed for students trained through The HSMT Academy, students who become familiar with Theatre Under the Stars through the Tommy Tune Awards for Excellence in High School Musicals, as well as Houston-area students interested in the performing arts. These performers will enhance their Musical Theatre experience through interaction with professional directors, musical directors, and choreographers. The practicum environment will then be capped with public performances to gauge audience reaction to their developing craft.
