Local's List with Pamela: Artsy Things to Do in Houston

Artsy Things to Do in Houston (That Aren't Food and Drinks)

As a Houston artist and the owner of Habibi Bazaar, I feel like it’s only right to highlight some of the more wholesome spots around the city. These are all artsy, creative workshops because let’s be honest, we already have plenty of food and drink options. Sometimes you just want something that feels a little more refreshing and actually feeds your creative soul.

Here are my top 5 list of art workshops and crafty things to do in Houston (in no particular order, of course):

Habibi Bazaar

Location: Arts District

Habibi Bazaar is a little different, and yes, I’m going to hype it up. We were one of the first places in Texas to offer rug tufting workshops, and it’s such a fun, hands-on experience. You get to design and create your own custom rug from start to finish, so you leave with something that’s actually yours. It’s creative, a little messy, and way more satisfying than you expect.

Knottii Shop

Location: Pop-Ups

Knottii Shop is where my Pinterest dreams actually come to life. Sharde teaches you how to hand knit your own chunky pieces, including the cutest purses that you can style up or down. She also offers crochet classes if you want to expand your skills. It’s a super fun, beginner-friendly workshop where you leave with something you’ll actually use and be proud to say you made yourself.

Dunsel Clayhouse

Location: EaDo

Dunsel Clayhouse has been on my list for a minute. Their themed nights are so fun, think karaoke and ceramics, and they recently did a ceramic cowboy boot vase party that I’m still not over missing. Corey has created one of the most beautifully curated studio spaces I’ve seen, and it really shows in the experience. It feels creative, social, and like something you’ll want to keep coming back to.

Cake Classes TX

Location: Multiple Locations

Cake Classes TX has been on my list, and honestly, I don’t know what’s taken me so long. I’ve had Courtney’s cakes before, which makes it even worse that I haven’t booked a class yet. Her workshops have a Bridgerton-inspired but still modern feel, and she really goes all out with the experience. You get brunch, mimosas, and a full class that actually feels worth it. It’s such a good deal.

Shot of Art

Location: Arts District

Shot of Art in the Arts District is everything you want it to be. This is your chance to get messy in the best way, with protective clothes on so you can actually go all in. You’re shooting at paint, spinning paint, drawing on the walls, and just letting yourself create without overthinking it. It’s fun, freeing, and one of those experiences that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
