All the Places You Should Be Thrifting in Houston, According to Melanie Cole
With thrifting and sustainability on the rise, we asked our very own Houston local (and thrifting queen) to give us her favorite places to thrift in and around the Houston-area.
Melanie Cole isn’t just thrifting, she’s rewriting the rules of fashion in Houston. Known as the “Thrifting Queen of Houston,” she’s built a following on Instagram and TikTok by turning hidden gems into bold, head-turning looks and proving style is about vision, not price tags. Through her Thrift Hop events and her work on the board of The Houston Clothing Swap, she’s building community and making sustainable fashion more accessible.
Her message is clear: the best style isn’t bought, it’s discovered.
While not every thrift spot hits the same (we all know which Goodwill we're talking about *cough* Montrose *cough*), she made us a guide to share with our readers so you don't have to research yourself.
Here are Melanie's top 10 picks for you:

Location: Northwest Houston
“If you know, you KNOW. This is one of my go-to spots on the north side when I want to walk in and actually find something,” she says. “It’s clean, curated, and full of pieces that feel current without losing that thrift magic. Oh - and let’s talk about it: their plus-size selection is TOP TIER.”
Melanie’s Tip: Go in with a vision… but be ready to leave with more than you planned.
Location: Lake Jackson
“Listen… I will get in the car for this one. Every time. This spot is packed with home finds, antique energy, and those random pieces you didn’t know you needed until you see them. And knowing your money is going right back into the community? That just hits different.”
Melanie’s Tip: Come inspired - you’re going to find something you didn’t plan for.
Location: Multiple Locations (Favorite is East Houston)
“This is NOT for the weak… this is for the real thrifters. This is where you roll up your sleeves, get in the racks, and earn your finds. The energy is fast, the inventory is always changing, and when you hit, you hit. Prices start at $2.50 on Thursdays and drop every single day until Wednesday.”
Melanie’s Tip: Thursday = best selection. Midweek = best prices. Choose your strategy wisely.
Location: Multiple Locations (Favorite is the Heights)
“This is where I go when I’m in the mood to hunt. You’re not just shopping, you’re discovering. Every rack has potential, and when you find that one piece, it feels like you just won something. And their rewards program? Don’t sleep on it, it adds up quick.”
Melanie’s Tip: Give yourself time. The best finds always show up when you slow down.
Location: Montrose
“This is one of those spots that just feels good the moment you walk in. It’s elevated, it’s intentional, and it always has those ‘wait… this is so cute’ pieces. I love the set pricing, it takes the guesswork out and makes it easy to shop, and the fact that they pour back into the community is the kind of shopping I stand behind.”
Melanie’s Tip: Don’t rush this one - there are gems tucked everywhere.
Location: North Houston + Northeast Houston
“Okay… let me tell you right now, this is a dig. No frills, just racks on racks, and if you’re willing to put in the work, you’re walking out with something good. The prices make it easy to take risks and really play with your style.”
Melanie’s Tip: Bring cash, block off time, and don’t skip a single section.
Location: The Heights
“If you’re in The Heights and not stopping here, what are you doing? This spot is curated in the best way, everything feels intentional, elevated, and ready to wear. It’s one of those places where you walk in just to look and walk out with a full outfit every time.”
Melanie’s Tip: Try everything on - you’ll find pieces you didn’t even know you needed.
Location: Pop-up + Online
“If you’ve ever caught them at a market, then you already know they don’t miss. Vintage Rose Merchant is a curated vintage boutique where every piece feels intentional, bold, and ready to be styled, and I’m always checking the site so I don’t miss a drop.”
Melanie’s Tip: If you see something you love - grab it. The best pieces never last long.
Location: Pop-up
“This isn’t just a flea market, it’s a whole vibe. A mix of vintage, handmade, and curated pieces from small businesses, it’s the kind of place where you’re not just shopping, you’re leaving inspired.”
Melanie’s Tip: Come early for the best finds, but take your time - you don’t want to miss a single booth.
Location: All over Houston
“If you’re not on this, what are you doing? EstateSales.net is my secret weapon for finding pieces with history, character, and that nobody else has it energy, just search your area and plan your weekend.”
Melanie’s Tip: First day = best selection. Last day = best deals.
